Our Beginning (1956–57)
The Panipat Co-operative Sugar Mills Ltd. was established in the year 1956, and the mill began its first
commercial production on 22nd March 1957, with a crushing capacity of 1250 TCD (Tonnes Crushed per Day).
The mill was set up with the objective of ensuring fair prices for sugarcane grown by farmers in the region, and
to create local employment opportunities.
The Journey of Expansion — 1975-76 Expansion
With growing demand and increasing availability of sugarcane in the region, the mill underwent a major
expansion. In 1975-76, the crushing capacity was increased to 1800 TCD. Modern machinery and technology
were also adopted during this period, improving both production capacity and quality. Some historic
photographs from the foundation/inauguration ceremony of this expansion are provided in the gallery section below.
Distillery Unit (1969)
In the year 1969, a Distillery Unit was established within the mill premises, and it remains active and operational
to this day. The establishment year, 1969, is clearly displayed at the entrance gate of the unit.
The New Plant — Village Dahar Project
A major milestone in the mill's growth came with the decision to set up a new, state-of-the-art sugar plant at
Village Dahar. The project began with land acquisition/finalization, during which officials of the Haryana
Government and the then Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panipat inspected the site.
On 18th October 2015, the foundation stone of the new plant was laid by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana,
Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar. The ceremony was also attended by Cooperation Minister Sh. Vikram Singh Yadav,
Transport Minister Sh. Krishan Lal Panwar, Member of Parliament Sh. Ashwani Chopra, and MLA Sh. Mahipal
Dhanda.
Following the foundation-laying ceremony, construction work began in phases — including foundations,
columns, circular tanks, and other civil structures. The new Dahar plant began its first crushing in 2021, and by
February 2023, the plant was fully completed and ready.
With this new plant, the mill's total crushing capacity has been increased from 1800 TCD to 5000 TCD — nearly a
2.7-fold increase. Alongside, a 28 MW Co-Generation power plant has also been set up, which generates
electricity using sugarcane bagasse. This not only meets the mill's own energy requirements but also supplies
surplus electricity to the state grid — a contribution towards green and renewable energy.
The plant's Mill House is equipped with 4 Nos. 40"×80" size 3-Roller Mills (with GRPF), designed, manufactured,
supplied, and erected by Uttam Sucrotech International Pvt. Ltd. (EPC Supplier of Sugar, Alcohol & Power
Plants).
Awards & Achievements
The mill has been honoured with the "2nd Cane Development Award" by the National Federation of Co-
operative Sugar Factories Ltd. (NFCSF) at its 56th Annual General Body Meeting.
